Evo Foods Leading the Global Market with the World’s First Heat-Stable Vegan Boiled Egg
Evo Foods is India's pioneering vegan startup, creating the country's first plant-based liquid egg using lentils.
Vegans typically exclude eggs from their diets due to ethical and health reasons. However, for some individuals, completely eliminating eggs can be challenging. This is often because eggs are a widely consumed food, easy to prepare, and known for their complete protein content.
Well for protein content We have previously discussed a variety of plant-based protein sources to dispel the misconception that plant-based foods lack complete protein.
However, addressing this gap, companies like Evo Foods have recognized the opportunity within the growing global plant-based food market, projected to reach $94 billion by 2028, as indicated by Brandessence Research. To cater to the demand for tasty and easily prepared alternatives, Evo Foods has introduced vegan eggs, offering a solution that connects the desire for a plant-based diet with the convenience and protein content traditionally associated with eggs.
Indian vegan start up Evo Foods aims to every continent
Evo Foods, an innovative startup committed to transforming the conventional chicken egg, showcased its pioneering spirit by unveiling the world’s first heat-stable plant-based boiled egg last year. This groundbreaking achievement represents a remarkable solution for individuals in search of egg alternatives that not only align with their dietary preferences but also deliver a satisfying taste.
EVO’s groundbreaking innovations have earned them the prestigious PETA India’s Most Innovative Company Award for 2021, further cementing their status as a leader in the alternative protein industry.
Mumbai-based Evo Foods, founded in 2019 by Kartik Dixit and Shraddha Bhansali, secured a pre-seed funding of US$845,000 in 2021. This financial boost enabled the company to launch in the Indian market in 2020 and set the stage for its international expansion.
With the ambition to expand to global market back in 2020, EVO Foods proudly demonstrated their animal-free boiled and liquid eggs in San Francisco in 2022, We are optimistic that their ambition will soon come to fruition, as affirmed by Evo Foods’ CEO and Co-founder, Kartik Dixit, who stated, ‘Innovation and speed are ingrained in Evo Foods’ DNA.”
Born Of Evo Foods
Kartik initially worked in cell-based meat (Cultured meat), upon realizing the significant environmental impact of traditional animal agriculture, which contributes to approximately 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.
He soon discovered that lab-cultured meat technology in India was just beginning to take root. However, he also noticed that eggs were a staple in the diets of people all across the country. This realization sparked an idea and he saw an opportunity to create a plant-based egg substitute.
Fate intervened when he crossed paths with Shraddha Bhansali, well-known entrepreneur and sustainability activist at a food startup conference who runs vegan restaurant in Mumbai called Candy & Green. This encounter led to the birth of Evo Foods through a collaboration with food scientists and plant biochemists, all of whom brought their expertise to the sustainable food industry.
Mission and vision at Evo Foods
Evo, a company with a name derived from “evolution,” distinguishes itself from other plant-based businesses by opting for a unique approach. Evo’s vision revolves around removing animals from the food chain by harnessing the rich biodiversity of Indian crops of 65,000+ edible varieties.
While many competitors rely on a single type of protein or mixed vegetable sources in their vegan egg-based products, Evo takes a different path. They harness a blend of proteins sourced from legumes, emphasizing the enduring nature of evolution over the sudden upheaval of a revolution. Evo’s mission is to unlock and promote this immense crop diversity, beginning with the creation of cost-effective egg alternatives.
